P.vannamei culture in Myanmar

P. vannamei culture started in Myanmar since 2006 and it's not developed because of Myanmar shrimp farmers like to do produce P.monodon ( Black Tiger ) which has good income and could be sold out in their region very easily. Most of our shrimp farms are doing traditional extensive culture until now. Huge potential area existed in the Rakhine State where 155,500 acres of shrimp farm were in production before and more than 50% of it had collapsed due to many reasons.

In 2012 Myanmar Shrimp Association (MSA) tried to organize and discussed the shrimp famers of this area how to revive this business. In the occasioned, MSA personnel discussed the local shrimp famers why P.vannamei shrimp culture was developed in Asia region and why the P.vannamei was cultured more than 95% in the region.

In March, 2013, one of the shrimp farm Aung Moe Khaing, situated in Kyauk Tan township near Yangon City, started producing P.vannamei shrimp culture with Biofloc Technology (BFT).

There was 3 modules and each module consisting of three rearing ponds of 0.64m2 and one reservoir. Stocking rate is 80/m2 and target size is 15gm/tail. Their expected volume is 5.3 to 5.5 metric tons and its meaning 8.5 metric tons/Ha production.

The Farm technician said they use BFT technology which is more secure, sustainable and advanced in shrimp culture. Recently a new disease (EMS) was in Asia and many shrimp farms were destroyed but BFT ( Biofloc cultured shrimp farm were sustained and carried over the production.

This is a delightful news for Myanmar Shrimp production, welcoming the Future of Myanmar Shrimp culture Development and revival .
